When we talk about accommodations for people with developmental disabilities, one important consideration is our own need to change our expectations where outcomes of instruction are concerned. People with developmental disabilities cannot be expected to have the exact same outcomes as people with no disabilities.

There are many appropriate supports that can be used to increase the effectiveness of teaching students with developmental disabilities. Here are a few more common ones that tend to apply to to functional academic instruction.
