CREATIVE COLLABORATION

POPS2014

Welcome to Pops Spedster's Place, where special education teachers, parents and students will find instructional supports and accommodations for people with intellectual disabilities resulting from low incidence and acquired impairments. At Pops Spedster's Place, we use Developmentally Appropriate Instruction (DAI) to teach academic and functional skills related to developmental assessments and Common Core State Standards.

As any school administrator will probably tell you, IDEiA places huge budgetary demands on local education agencies (LEAs) without sufficiently funding that mandate. Many times Special Educators and Related Services Providers are faced with the task of designing instruction to meet an IEP goal which has been collaboratively agreed upon, without consideration for funding resources.

In such cases, Special Educators and Related Services Providers need to (and do) resort to creative collaboration. They improvise creative approaches that do not require large capital outlays, using existing assets that may have been overlooked or deemed to be obsolete.

The video Pete's Story describes this process ina real life situation. Watch that story by either clicking on the tab in the left column or on the hyperlink at the beginning of this paragraph.
